Henrik Aaby

Aaby, Henrik

Position : LW

22-08-1975 Oslo, NOR

Youth team / club formateur : Frisk Asker

His father played bandy.
Began skating at age three and played hockey at the age of five for Frisk Asker, where he was included in first team at age 17.
He scored more than 400 career points in over 500 games, all seasons but one in Norwegian league.
He spent one season in Sweden for Frölunda (1996/97) where he didn't fit to defensive style of play.
He was injured in the end of his Swedish year and spent a year without playing.
His comeback season was his best, until he suffered from a seriously dislocated shoulder in a WC game against Canada on May 3, 1999 when he was hit violently into the boards.
Within a few months he had eight more shoulder separations. So on April 12, 2000 he had surgery on his shoulder but sustained a nerve damage in the process.
He was advised to quit hockey but worked extremely hard for a comeback and eventually succeeded, but his shoulder was never the same again.
Aaby led Asker to a Norwegian title in 2002.
He retired in June 2007 and went on to work as a physical educator.
